    About Lhasa Namtso Everest

    Combination of Lhasa, Lake Namtso & Everest Base Camp is just another beautiful program in Tibet that you might want to try it. A trip which explores monasteries, ancient palace, holy lakes and mountains. This is a 10 days program which takes you to some prominent historical and religious sites around Lhasa then after drives you to Namtso lakes which is the highest salt water lakes in the universe. Area around Namtso Lakes is just stunning with 100 of lakes, snowcapped peaks surrounding it, abundant wildlife and sparse population of Nomads.  Then after this scenic trip the journey continues south to the base camp of world highest peak Mt. Everest 8,848 m through some spectacular Tibetan landscapes, high passes with prayer flags fluttering, Tibetan townships and mystic ancient monasteries.  Base camp from Tibet side rewards you with the majestic view of north face of Everest.

    As per the flight schedule we will transfer you to the Kathmandu airport for 1hr 15. m flight to Lhasa. During the flight (weather permitting) you will see the Yarlung Tsangpo river (Brahmaputra), Yamdrok-tso Lake, Mt Kanchenjunga (8586m),  Mt Makalu (8463m) and Mt Everest (8848m).  Upon touch down at the Gonggar Airport in Lhasa at 15:55 (Beijing Standard Time) some immigration formalities and drive for approx. 01 hr  to holy city of Lhasa. Assistance for check in to the hotel then you  can have complete rest for acclimatization.

    Today, start with a visit to the summer palace of Dalai Lama ‘Norbulingka which is situated in the western suburb of Lhasa City, at the bank of the Kyichu River, about one km (about 0.6 mile) southwest of Potala Palace. The garden covers an area of 360,000 square meters (about 430,000 square yards), with 374 rooms inside. It is the biggest man-made garden in Tibet Autonomous Region.

    Then drive 8 km west to Drepung monastery, once Tibet’s largest and most influential monastery, with over 10,000 monks. Today, Drepung houses only about 700 monks and attracts pilgrims and visitors from around the world.  This was also the resident of the Dalai Lama prior to Potala Palace. Although several destructions were taken place in different time but still you have lots of things to see by walking through numbers of narrow and twisted lanes.

    After we visit another great Gelugpa Monastery Sera built in 1419 by Jamchen Choji Sakya Yeshi a disciple of Tsongka pa.  This is one of the best preserved monasteries in Tibet, where several hundred monks live and study within it’s whitewashed walls & golden roofs. Colorful debates on Buddhist doctrines are held here and these employ a style distinctive from those at Lhasa’s other famous monasteries.

    After breakfast, we start our tour by visiting Potala Palace the landmark and also the symbol of Tibet.  This is a winter palace of Dalai Lama which comprises of White and Red Palaces with 1000 rooms having various statues, stupas, murals and artifacts. The architecture of the entire construction, the splendid well-preserved artworks and various kinds of religious treasures are some of the highlights of Potala Palace.

    Next we visit Jokhang Temple the spiritual center of Tibet founded in 647 by King Songtsen Gampo.  This is one of the most scared temple in Tibet and is always bustling with earnest local pilgrims since from early days. After you will have a time to walk around the Barkhor streets the most devotional circuit as well as crowded central market of Lhasa. In the olden days this was the most famous local market but now it has changed to tourist gift shopping center.

    Today we start bit early after breakfast to Lake Namtso situated at an elevation of 4,718 m. This is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet and is the second largest saltwater lake in China.  It is around 240 km northwest of Lhasa. The 5 hour drive to Namtso Lakes provides some wonderful views of Nyenchen Thanglha (snow mountain ranges) nomad’s tent, grazing yak and sheep densely-populated around the mountain side. You can also opt for an easy trek along the lakeside, visit the monastery at Tashi Dor, and spend a starry night in a guest house on the shore. Overnight in Guest House

    Mesmerizing views can be obtain in the clear morning with 7000 m peaks towering over the lake to south, prayer flags fluttering in the strong wind and wide open spaces dotted with the local Drokpas. Then we can walk along the lake and explore the meditation caves before you leave for the drive to Dumxung to have lunch.  In the afternoon, we can visit Yangpachen hot spring which is fame from the abundant geothermic heat.  Then we head down to Lhasa for an overnight stay.

    Following Friendship Highway, you drive past Khamba La at 4,794 meter with a brief

    halt  to savor majestic views of Yamdrok­tso Lake and Nazin Kang Sa standing proud at7,252m.On turning westwards, you come across another Karo La pass at 5045m. If you glance at the road, you can see huge glaciers tumbling down into the road. After 261 kms some hours  of driving, beautifully landscaped Tibetan villages become visible as you

    enter the town of Gyantse. Here you will visit Kumbum Monastery, the only Nepalese styled stupa in whole of Tibet.  It literally means “hundred thousand images of Buddha” and stands at 34 m high. The mural and wall paintings are the wonders of the stupa that mostly date back to its original time.  From the top, you can have a beautiful view of the old part of the town in the shadow of the fort. After, we drive to Shigatse the second largest town in Tibet and the traditional capital of Tsang. We check in and relax a bit and then afternoon walk along the Shigatse market.

    This day in the morning visit the Tashilunpo  Monastery,  one of the most important monasteries in Central Tibet besides being the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. It is a combination of traditional and modern architectural style which exhibits many historical relics, artworks and murals.  After we drive out of  Shigatse to visit Sakya Monastery and explore Lhatse County, a fertile land with developed agriculture. Then we arrive in Xegar for an overnight stay. During the drive if the weather is good you can see Mt. Everest in the distance.  Overnight in the Hotel.

    We head off the main overland route and the road rise steeply up the foothills of the Himalayas via Pangla Pass to arrive at Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest monastery situated at 5,050 m, just below the Rongbuk glacier. Check in at the guest house.  After have lunch then get a eco bus or pony cart to the base camp(5,200 m)  of one of the highest mountain of the world. The astonishing snow mountain and changeful cloud will be in your touch. During the sunset the mountains looks beautiful with changing of colors. Then retreat back to Rongbuk Monastery and explore.  The monastery is small in size, but it has many colorful and lively murals.

    After getting the morning view of the mighty Everest we pack up and drive to the newly opened border between Nepal and China.
