    About Mt. Kailash Spiritual Tour

Mt. Kailash (6,714 m) situated in the South-western part of Tibet has long been an object of worship for four major religions. Mt. Kailash to the Buddhists is the abode of Demchok – the wrathful manifestation of Sakyamuni. It’s a dwelling of Lord Shiva – the destroyer and transformer to the Hindus. To the Jains of India the mountain is a site at which the first of their saints was emancipated. And finally to the Bon people Mt Kailash is a sacred nine-stacked-swastika mountain upon which the Bonpo founder Shenrab alighted from heaven. Also according to the sacred Sanskrit literature called the Vishnu Purana, it is a representation of Mt Sumeru – the cosmic mountain at the center of the universe.

The 53 km parikarma (also known as ‘Kora’ or ‘Circumabulance’)around the Holy Mt. Kailash is one of the most important pilgrimages for Hindus and Buddhists alike. It is believed that a single parikarma erases the sins of a lifetime, whereas 108 circumambulations will help one achieve Salvation.

Just below Mount Kailash is the sacred lake Manasarovar situated at an elevation of 4,510 m. This is another important religious site for Hindus. It is believed that by taking a dip in this holy lake will deliver a pilgrim to Brahma’s paradise and by drinking its water washes away the sins of a hundred lifetimes.

Now after a gap of nearly three years the Overland tour to Mt. Kailash has resumed with an opening of Rasuwagadi-Kerung border.  This has made travelling easier, shorter and better price. The Kerung border is located 175 km from Kathmandu and lies in the Rasuwagadi district of Nepal. Due to narrow and basic road construction duration of driving can take around 8/9 hours – so in order to reduce bit of travelling time at one go we have kept one night at Syabrubesi before travelling further. Kerung is elevated around 3,700 meters height and staying one day for acclimatization assists to alter your body in high altitude. From Kerung, we take scenic drive to the villages of New Dongba, Mansarovar and Darchen with amazing landscape with mountain view Mount Kailash surroundings and beautiful Tibetan settlements.
