Trek today goes eastwards through number of hamlets and diminishing forest of rhododendron and pine.  Then we make a steady progress on a good trail, crossing ridges and streams up to Kharka which is used as grazing fields for yaks.  We will be spending two nights here before proceeding to next destination.  Overnight at the lodge.

Today after breakfast we trek to Thuli Kharka – this is a long day walk crossing the Kalo Himal Ridge that separates the Khumbu from the Hinku valley.  Initially the trail goes steep up to a cairned notch in the ridge (4,450 m) with Buddhist prayer flags all around then we cross a small pass Zatrwa Og. Trail continues across a boulder slope then once again climbs to Zatrwa-La pass (4,600 m).   Cross Zatrwa La, traversing to the right and finally descending steeply to Tuli Kharka (big pasture) where there are several basic lodges.  The views across the Dudh Kosi towards Karyolung and the Lumding Himal are very impressive. We spent the night in the lodge at 4250m/13,944ft.

    Overnight at the Lodge

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.(breakfast, lunch & dinner)

From Tuli Kharka the trail traverses the hillside, crossing several spurs, and eventually reaching a point that provides first view of Mera Peak. Then the trail descends steeply through rhododendron forest to reach the river and continues towards the west side of the Hinku Drangka to Kothe (3,600m) for an overnight stay. This is a delightful spot by the river with fantastic views of the valley.

    Overnight at a Lodge

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

After breakfast, our journey continues on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka, the valley slowly widens up, there are no villages except the small kharkas and forest slowly disappears.  You can get the view of Kusum Kanguru peak on the left.  It then passes through Gondishung ‘the summer herders settlement’ for lunch break. Beyond Gondishung, we pass a 200 year-old Lungsumgba Gompa where we can find Mera Peak scripted in rock along with its route to reach Mera. Here we can burn some juniper at the shrine, an offering that just might ensure a successful ascent of Mera Peak. Then it is an hour walk over moraines to the yak herder’s settlement of Tagnang for the overnight stay. Tagnag is a summer grazing area with the simple lodges and shops.

    Overnight at a lodge

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

Acclimatization day: This is an acclimatization day and is needed before proceeding towards higher elevation. We can spend this day by walking upto Kusum Kangaro Base Camp.

    Overnight at the lodge.

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

From Tagnag the trail turns eastwards and follows the lateral moraine of the Dig glacier.  You can have a spectacular view of Charpate Himal from the trail. After, the   trail goes up through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers.  The trail further climbs more steeply to Khare for an overnight stay. From here, one can have the fantastic view of the North face of Mera Peak.

    Overnight at the Lodge

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

Have breakfast in the morning then we can go for Ice climbing practice above Khare.  Here our climbing guide can give little bit instruction on techniques and safety procedures to be used on our climbs.  After we return we also make the equipment arrangement before making the climb.

    Overnight at the Lodge.

Includes : Accommodation, trek crew, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

From Khare, the trail initially goes up to the top of the moraine then up a steep slope of scree to a boulder strewn.  Then it climbs to the rock platform beside the glacier. Now we need to rope up and put on the crampons to make 30/35 degree climb to a plateau.  It then continues between the crevasses to Mera La for an overnight stay.

    Overnight at the camp

Includes : Accommodation in a tented camp, trek crew, climbing guide, rope, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

From the base camp at the Mera La it is possible to make the summit and return in one day in good condition; however we will establish a high camp at 5,800m near a rocky outcrop on the Mera glacier. From here there are superb views of many of the Himalayan giants in the surrounding region. Above us, one can see the Central Summit which stands at the head of a wide glacier flanked by two ridges.

    Overnight at the camp

Includes : Accommodation, climbing guide, rope, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

Set off early in the morning for the ascent of Mera. Although, technically, Mera is a relatively straight-forward ascent, it still takes between 6-7 hours to reach the higher Central Summit at 6,461 m. There is no technical climbing on the route, but the final twenty-five metre push up to the flat pancake of Mera’s central summit is its steepest section, and most people will wish to rope up for it. The hard walk is rewarded with one of the finest mountain views in the world giving fantastic views of five 8,000m peaks – Everest and Lhotse to the north, Kanchenjunga and Makalu to the east, and Cho Oyu to the north-west.  Descend to Khare.

Overnight at the lodge in Khare

Includes : Accommodation, climbing guide, rope, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

There is no guarantee that we will have favourable weather on our planned day for the summit therefore, this day is set aside as a lay over day in case we are unable to summit the Mera on day 13 due to bad weather conditions or any other unanticipated reason. However, if the trip goes smoothly, we do not need this spare day, we can use this day to walk back to Lukla at a leisurely pace.

Includes : Accommodation, climbing guide, rope, permit and conservation park fee and meals.

We trek from Khare to Kothe along the same trail used previously. After reaching Kothe, we celebrate our success by trying out local delicacies and wines.

It is an uphill trek through lush rhododendron forests on the west side of the Hinku Valley to Thuli Kharka. After reaching Thuli Kharka, we enjoy remarkable views of Mera North, Mera Central and South face. Overnight at the lodge.
