Three Passes trek trail falls in the Everest region of Nepal. It is a 17 days trek ideal for adventure seekers who are looking for something more challenging than the conventional Everest Base Camp Trek. Undeniably one of the best lodge trek in the Everest region as it is an ultimate circuit trek in the Everest region which covers some of the best parts of Khumbu (Everest) region.
This trek passes through beautiful Sherpa Villages, mani boulders with carved mantras, monastery and untouched Nangpa La Valley. It crosses three high pass over 5,000 m, reaches three summits which provides some stunning views of the lofty Himalayas. Three Passes trek also takes you to the base camp of the world highest peak, Gokyo region and untouched Nangpa La Valley. The landscape is varied and spectacular; the lodgings and treks ranges from the time worn paths of the Khumbu to the isolated and less frequented Renjo La pass region.
Three Passes trek unlike other treks in Everest region makes a loop, hence no tracing back of the route. The good thing about this trek is despite having to cross three passes, you do not require any technical climbing and any person with good fitness and previous trekking experience can complete the trek successfully.

You will be warmly greeted by our representative at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu upon your arrival. After escorting to your designated hotel in the city you’ll be assisted in checking into your room. Before checking in, the timing and location for a briefing session concerning your trip will be arranged. After such briefing, which will include a quick check of your personal trekking gears by our experts, you’ll have the afternoon/evening of that day all for yourself.

In the morning after breakfast preparation of the trek then later the city guide will pick you up and then drive you to SWAYABUNATH stupa which is perched atop a hill on the western edge of Kathmandu valley. This is one of the world’s most glorious Buddhist Chaityas said to be 2,000 years old. After we drive 18 km east to an ancient palace of BHAKTAPUR filled with monuments, most terra-cotta with carved wood columns, palaces and temples. We end our day with a visit to Nepal’s most sacred Hindu shrine PASHUPATINATH. We will have some time to do last minute shopping before leaving for the trek.

Our trek program commences today with an exciting 35 minutes mountain flight to Lukla (2,800 m) from where we start walking through the beautiful mountainous Sherpa land. Our nearly 5 hours walk today will reach us to village of Monjo (2,840 m). Walk will be through villages, community forest, crossing rivers on a metal suspension bridge with Kusum Kangru peak (6,367 m) towering at the backdrop; mani walls, chortens & boulders carved with Tibetan mantras and brightly painted prayer wheels.

The walk today to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) will comprise of around 4 hours. Initially the trail is gentle but gets you involved with high and long climbs at later stages actually taking you from a safe altitude to an area which can pose risks of altitude sickness. Hence, avoiding exhaustion by taking your time and moving slowly is advised. Trail passes through enormous granite bluff, carved with mantras in huge Tibetan characters, crosses Dudh Kosi river on a suspension bridge then walk through pine forest to famous Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.

Today is a rest day for acclimatization before proceeding towards higher elevation. This day can be spent exploring the Namche Bazaar, Musuem, Sherpa Cultural Center and get some excellent view of the Himalayas. Also the option is doing a day hike to some large Sherpa villages of Kunde and Khumjung from where you can get the great views of mighty Everest. Overnight at the lodge.

After breakfast, we climb towards the east following the Dudh Kosi (river) again, high above the riverbed. Then our trek descends to Phunki Tenga at 3,250 passing through some Sherpa villages like Sanasa and Tashinga. After, we climb steeply then walk through rhododendrons and conifers forest to Tyangboche at 3,870m. Here you will be rewarded with panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. Also here you will have a chance to visit one of most famous Tyangboche Monastery. This is one of the most sacred monastery for the Sherpa community. After, we will descend down bit further to Debuche for our overnight stay.

Today, we start by crossing the bridge over the rushing Imja Khola and then climb to Pangboche (3,900m) passing through some beautifully carved walls. Pangboche provides the dramatic views of the Himalayas. Then from here we climb to Shomare village for lunch. From this village you can see the changes of terrain it becomes more arid and alpine. We continue our journey passing through Orsho village from where you can have great view of Pumori. We then descend down to a small bridge over the Khumbu Khola and then make a short steep climb to a summer settlement of Dingboche (4530m). Here you will be surrounded by peak like Island Peak (6,189 m), Ama Dablam, Peak 38 (7,591 m) and Lhotse (8,501 m). Overnight at the lodge.

Another day will be spent at Dingboche for acclimatization before proceeding to further higher elevation. If everything is okay we will climb Nangkartshang Peak at 5,100m to get the views of some of the peaks i.e. Ama Dablam, Chalotse and Tawoche. Or we just relax and hang around Dingboche. After breakfast we walk to a small settlement of Chhukung, this is a short walk through Imja Khola valley to the land raven by glacier moraines amidst towering formidable mountains. On the trail to Chhukung we will have Lhotse towering on your left and Ama Dablam on the right. After reaching Chhukung, we will store our bag and then we will ascend Chhukung Ri (5546m). From here we can have magnificent views of Lhotse, Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu and several others including Baruntse. You can see the fantastic snow and ice formations on Ama Dablam and the Amphu Labsa. Overnight at the lodge.

Today is bit hard and a long day to Lobuje as we will be crossing our first pass Kongma La. Our trek starts bit early leaving the main valley towards Kongma La with packed lunch and water as there are no lodges or restaurant on the way. On the way we can see glaciers and on the left we can see the black rocky Pokalde peak(5,806 m). Then after sometime we reach the lake from where we will have a steep climb to the top of the pass. View is tremendous as we will be surrounded by peaks and glaciers in all directions. Then after, we descend in a long and steep trail towards Khumbu glacier to reach Lobuje for our overnight stay at the lodge.

After breakfast we start our journey to Gorak Shep which heads northwards following the Khumbu glacier. From the trail we can see the crest of north ridge of Everest and other mountains like Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse etc. After few up downs, you will reach Gorakshep for an overnight stay. After enjoying your lunch and relaxation you will gradually start your climb to Kala Patthar (5,545 m). It is around 2 hours climb. Once atop, you can then watch awesome views of the sunset unfolding over the Himalayas, which momentarily will make you feel like you’re actually in Heaven. The view of course is subject to weather conditions.

Today after breakfast we trek to the base camp (5,360 m) of the world highest mountain Mt. Everest (8,848 m). Start from the north end of Gorak Shep, than follow the trail across the Khumbu Glacier where you’ll see numerous prayers flags wedged between rocks at the bottom of the Khumbu Icefall (5,340 m).
In comparison to your ascent to Kala Patthar you had the previous day; the trek to the Everest Base Camp is not going to be anything spectacular – landscapes, close up views of Khumbu Ice Falls, Khumbu Glacier and the base camp of highest peak are the main sight of this trip. In the spring time you’ll be greeted with an atmosphere which is fascinating in itself. You’ll see climber groups from various countries eating, reading, playing cards, strumming guitars and doing everything possible to kill their time while they wait for the green signal to commence their climb to the summit. Return back to Gorak Shep pick up gears and then walk down to Lobuje for an overnight stay at the lodge.

After breakfast we start our walk to Dzongla, it is around 3 hours walk. Trail today heads southwest from below Lobuje. It goes around the ridge then drops down to the wide valley at the foot of Cholatse. Above us you can see the twin peaks of Tawoche and Chalotse.

Today we will be crossing the second pass Cho La (5,420 m). Crossing of this pass involves climbing in a steep trail which is quite difficult especially if there is a heavy snow conditions. From the top of the pass dramatic views of the snowcapped peaks appears especially the views of Cholatse and Amadablam are amazing. While descending down proper care needs to be taken care as the trail can be slippery. From there we walk through the terminal moraine of Ngzoumpo glacier which is the largest in the Nepal Himalaya. Then we cross Longpongo glacial lakes to Gokyo for an overnight stay at the Lodge.

Today is the day for exploring Gokyo, here we will be surrounded by four of the seven highest peak. In the morning we will trek north to see some more glacial lakes then in the afternoon we ascend Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) to see the magnificent views of the Himalayas during the sunset. Today we will be crossing the last pass of our trek Renjo La (5,345 m) – our walk will be through steep barren rocky trail. From the top of the pass you can have some superb view of the mountains. Then from the pass we will descend down having a landscape which is similar to Tibet. Continue our walk crossing Rermo Lake to Lungden for an overnight stay at the lodge.

After breakfast we continue our journey descending further down on the way sometimes we can meet Tibetan traders with their caravans of yaks filled with carpets, salts and hides. Continue walking following the Bhote Kosi river, after we head south to Thame. Then continue further down to Namche Bazzaar throught chorten and mani walls for an overnight stay. After breakfast, we walk down initial to Dudh Kosi (river) which is bit difficult, cross the suspension bridge and then climb to Monjo. Then after it is an easy walk through Benkar, Phakding villages to Lukla.
