Our tour to Nepal begins with the place where Nepal was born.  TheSwayambunath Stupa, the Kathmandu’s oldest and the most important shrine is the monuments which mark the birth place of the Kathmandu Valley which later developed into the country of Nepal. It is perched atop a hill on the western edge of Kathmandu valley overlooking most parts of the valley. To visit a stupa is said to be the same as meeting a Buddha in person as it represents Buddha’s mind. It offers peace, freedom and joy to the whole world and ultimately helps us to obtain perfect enlightenment.

Then from there we drive down to heart of the city to visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the seat of Royalty in the earlier days.  Although many of the structures has been damaged by the 25th Earthquake but some monuments are still intact exposing the beautiful wood work of the ancient times.   You might also be lucky to see the living Goddess Kumari during your visit here. From there we walk through the local typical Nepali market experiencing the activities to colorful and vibrant Thamel streets. Here also you can find some great restaurants to have lunch.

After bit late in the afternoon we move from Thamel to the most holy Hindu temple of Nepal, Pashupatinath. This is a two tiered golden roof and silver door temple dedicated to a manifestation of Shiva called Pashupati (Lord of Animals). The exact date of foundation of the shrine is not known but the first historical records date from the 13th century. The site has sprawling collection of temples, ashrams, images and inscriptions raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmatiriver. In the evening we can see the performing of the Arati. The Arati is an expression of one’s complete and unflinching love towards God. It is sung and performed with a deep sense of reverence, adoration, and meditative awareness.

This day initially we will drive around 18 Km east of Kathmandu to visit another ancient Palace of Nepal. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is an ancient palace rich in traditional art, architecture and historical monuments. The square is one of the most charming architectural showpieces of the Valley as it highlights the ancient arts of Nepal. (Some of the temples and monuments are undergoing renovation).  Here in Bhaktapur we will also be visiting pottery square, the centre of Bhaktapur’s ceramic industry, and it’s a fascinating place to wander around. Several shops sell the finished article, and you can see the firing process at the back of the square, which is lined with mud-covered straw kilns.

Today we fly to Pokhara Valley situated 200 km west of Kathmandu. Valley is a gateway to several beautiful treks around Annapurna region and also provides a magical view of Mt. Machuppuchare.

Here we explore Pokhara town temple, stupa, lake and then later drive to Tiger Mountain Lodge perched 1,000 ft above the Pokhara Valley with a spectacular Himalayan backdrop.  Lodge provides a perfect haven and the essence of tranquility. It is great place to take walks exploring local communities, bird watching, gentle exercise, or just to relax in a typical Nepalese rural setting.

Afternoon to get a taste of what’s on offer, why not start with a short, guided walk around the lodge’s immediate vicinity. There are many trails utilised by the local residents, which lead through the villages, passing fields of millet, mustard, potatoes, and other crops, depending on the season. There are many different species of plants, some used for medicinal purposes, which will be pointed out by our experienced guides. There is also an abundance of birds. Specialist bird-watching walks can easily be arranged for keen birders. We can also provide a checklist of birds and butterflies for the area. Field guides are available from the Col. Jimmy’s Library. Please let the guide know your interests and how long you wish to walk; he can then design a walk to suit you.
